After signing for Bayern Munich for a fee worth around £9 Million, Ballack adapted to a more defensive role, however still managing to score on ten occasions it was enough to win Bayern Munich the German title. Ballack found impressive form during the 2002/03 season and was back to his best during the 2004/05 campaign for the German Giants. Between the two season 2003/04 and 2004/05 nhe notched up an impressive twenty goals for the German champions, despite playing in a defensive midfield role. Impressive performances at Bayern Munich earned him the accolade of German Footballer of the year in 2002, 2003 and 2005. His phenomanal performances helped Bayern Munich on the road to the German cup victory in 2003, 2005 and 2006. Ballack hit peak form during the 2004/05 season, scoring a total of 18 goals in 40 matches, nearly averageing a goal every two games. His impressive display during the 2005/06 season impressed Chelsea enough to sign hi, once again instrumenetal in his role at Bayern Munich, he scored 14 goals in only 26 matches for Bayern Munich and led them to German Cup victory.
